Welcome

Welcome to the FM Consultants Council new Website.

News and Updates

March 1, 2009 - Message to FMCC members from Kit Tuveson, President:

It has been a bit over 4 months since we gathered in Dallas at World Workplace.  Your council leaders have been meeting every month and working to deliver the resources you need for managing your consulting businesses.  This message is a status report on some of those activities:

Website – a lot of work has been put into upgrading our website.  We are now showing a calendar function, and listing some of the events where our members are making a presentation, or writing an article.  Secretary, Barbara Kane, CFM, is our liaison to IFMA staff – send ideas or corrections to her at Barbara@kaneconsulting.net.

Webinars  - we have had two “shows” on starting up and marketing your consulting business. They have been very well received and we have plans for two more before World Workplace.  Watch the calendar on our website for details.

Our Community Server is working well – there have been many requests for information and solutions to specific problems.  This is what the CS is designed for.  Please use it often.

Resource directory – the good news is that your council has been in the driver’s seat for the design of a very robust and searchable directory of members.  It will be piloted in a few months and then rolled out to all FMCC members.  It will only be as good as the information we ALL put into it, so be sure to look for the instructions on how to populate this important member services tool.

Membership - as of May 1st, 2009 we have 528 members (IFMA's 5th largest council).  We are pleased to see our numbers holding up, but we need to continue to provide tools and ideas for consulting professionals in our membership.

Finances – our account funds are holding up well.  We are staying within the tight budget constraints set for the 08/09 fiscal year.  Our Fiscal Year ends on June 30th.

Spring & Summer -  Mike Liddle and I will be attending the European FM Conference in Amsterdam in June.  We hope to attract other FMCC members from Europe and also to do some promotion of the value of the FMCC to attendees at this well-regarded FM conference.

World Workplace – our annual council meeting is scheduled to occur on the morning of Wed, Oct 7th, in Orlando.  We hope to see members at WWP and also at our annual meeting on Wednesday.

My October 2008 message outlined four goals for the coming year.  Here is my report on progress for each of these goals:

1 – Support & advance the visibility, value and impact of FM consulting community
We made some progress here with the Webinars and increased traffic on the Community Server.  The lateness of getting our website working well was a gap.  We have the website working now, and expect to achieve better results over the coming months.

2 – Manage the council to foster professional development growth, enhance benefits, and propagate the FM consulting profession
We have maintained good governance of your council.  Our Board meetings are focused on the future and on solving operations problems as they occur.  I recently appointed a Nominating Committee to put together the ballot for the coming year’s officers.

3 – Instill a passion for excellence in our Global members though educational and professional opportunities, mentoring, knowledge, and leadership development
Our global reach has been excellent in Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA).  We have only a few members in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, and are working to increase membership and support there.  Issues of global importance are often discussed on our monthly calls.  Several members of the FMCC are on an IFMA Board level International Task Force charged with detailing and clarifying IFMA’s role as an International level Association.

4 – Engender fiscal responsibility in the council that serves its immediate needs, while adequately planning for the future
We have managed the expense side well, but we have not been successful with sponsorships, nor have we made real our plans for a “revenue event” during this year.  We have more work to go on this important objective.

It continues to be my pleasure and honor to serve you as your President.  I always appreciate direct feedback and ideas for improvement in all that we do together.
